The British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and partners will be running the Blu Hope campaign on World Children’s Day on 20 November 2020.

This was published under the 2019 to 2022 Johnson Conservative government

This is following the success of the Blu Hope on World Ocean’s Day virtual campaign in June 2020 which reached over half a million audience. The campaign will look at plastic pollution through the eyes of Malaysian children and youth. Teaming up once again with Plastic Oceans UK, we will be launching the Bahasa Malaysia version of their education films that feature the voiceover talent of Malaysian actress and environmentalist, Maya Karin.

Online audience will also be able to catch video speeches from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, UK Minister of State for Pacific and the Environment Lord Zac Goldsmith as well as the Malaysian Minister of Environment & Water, Tuan Ibrahim bin Tuan Man.

A series of webinars will feature a great line up of speakers and moderators including: Jo Ruxton, Founder of Plastic Oceans UK; Paul Rose, Expedition Leader National Geographic Pristine Seas; Ken O’Flaherty, COP26 Regional Ambassador for Asia/Pacific and South Asia; Stephen Harris, Founder of Maui’s Ark; Former Special Representative to the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance, along with representatives from UNICEF, WWF-Malaysia, Earth Day Network, Nestlé, Unilever, Tesco Malaysia, Tearfund and WRAP among others.

HE Charles Hay MVO, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, says:

We want our children and future generations to inherit a better place to live in. We must take immediate steps to tackle plastic pollution, protect the environment and mitigate climate change before the damage becomes irreversible.

The UK is taking a leadership role and galvanising global efforts in addressing these important concerns. In the run up to co-chairing the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in Edinburgh next November, I am pleased to host a series of activities including the Blu Hope campaign to get conversations and action going.

The full day programme, which is free for all, will be live-streamed from 10am (Malaysia time, GMT+8) on the Asia Dive Expo website and their Facebook page.

The Blu Hope on World Children’s Day campaign is organised in partnership with Blu Hope and Asia Dive Expo. International Schools Partnership (parent company of Tenby Schools) is the official Education Sponsor.
