Justice Reinvestment (JR) has been promoted by the Justice Committee and advocates of progressive reform as a way of delivering social justice, a more cost effective criminal justice system and better outcomes for society. To date, the development of JR in the UK has been patchy. The devolution of justice provides an opportunity for local and regional agencies to adopt a JR approach to the way in which justice services are locally commissioned and locally managed.

In this free seminar, Kevin Wong examined the challenges of devolution and presented a framework for commissioning and delivering JR at a local level. He drew on lessons from JR in the United States and his experience of evaluating the Ministry of Justice Local Justice Reinvestment Pilots and Youth Justice Custody Reinvestment Pathfinders.
