Mauritania elections 2024: UK statement

UK government statement following Mauritania's presidential election on 29 June 2024

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson said:

“The UK offers warm congratulations to President Mohamed Cheikh Mohamed Ahmed El Ghazouani on his re-election as President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for a second term.

“Under President Ghazouani’s leadership, we hope to further strengthen our relationship with Mauritania across the range of our shared interests, including our commitment to democracy, prosperity, development and defence.

“The UK looks forward to continuing to work closely with President Ghazouani and his government as part of our shared commitment to address regional challenges, including climate and security.”
