Mauritian 2014 Chevening Scholars announced
Vignesh Ellayah and Yamal Matabudul will study for Masters Courses in the UK

The British High Commission in Mauritius is pleased to announce that Vignesh Ellayah and Yamal Matabudul have been selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to talented professionals who have demonstrated the potential to become future leaders across a wide range of fields. It is fully funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and covers one year of post-graduate studies in a British university. Both scholars will start their courses in the UK this September.
Vignesh will study for an LLM in International Banking and Finance Law at University College London. He has been working as State Counsel at the Office of the DPP since 2012. On receiving his award, he said:
“I feel deeply honoured to have been awarded the Chevening Scholarship for an LLM in International Banking and Finance at the University College London. This scholarship gives me an invaluable opportunity and privilege to become part of the prestigious Chevening network. Being a Chevening Scholar will allow me to broaden my global outlook, build a network of like-minded professionals from all over the world and learn from the very best. It will undoubtedly be a life changing experience for me, both personally and professionally.
Yamal will study for an MSC in Higher Education at the University of Oxford. He is currently the General Manager of the Medine Education Village. On receiving his award he said:
“Being nominated for the Chevening Scholarship, UK’s global scholarship programme for emerging leaders is a matter of great pride. At the same time I am reminded that if one receives, one should give back. I aim to pursue a Masters in Higher Education to bring my own contribution to make Mauritius a Knowledge Hub. UK is the world’s first Knowledge Hub and is home to some of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world. The Chevening path is more than a one time opportunity; it offers the promise of lifelong networks and contacts.”
British High Commissioner Jonathan Drew said:
“The Chevening scholarship is a prestigious award and, since 1986, has benefitted many of the best and brightest talents in Mauritius. They return to Mauritius with enhanced skills and are in an ideal position to put their expertise at the service of Mauritius. I wish Vignesh and Yamal a very fruitful experience in the UK.
