Senior officials' meeting on the situation in Brussels: 22 March 2016
Senior government officials reviewed the situation following the attacks in Brussels earlier in the day and discussed the UK response.
A Downing Street spokesperson said:
The Deputy National Security Adviser chaired a meeting of senior government officials and senior representatives from the police this afternoon to review the situation following this morning’s explosions in Brussels.
The UK Ambassador to Belgium and Foreign & Commonwealth officials provided an update on the Belgian response and latest casualty figures. Details are still emerging so we do not yet know final casualty figures, but at this stage we are aware of 2 British nationals who have been injured and consular staff are providing them with assistance.
They also discussed the response in the UK, noting that while the threat level has not changed there has been an increase in police presence at ports, airports, underground stations and international railway stations. This will be kept under review in the coming days.
