Mining conference with British participation takes place in Chile
The Embassy participated at Medmin to strengthen the importance of British innovative solutions for the mining sector.
The Commercial Section of the British Embassy Santiago supported the Small and Medium Scale Mining Conference (Medmin) held on Monday 8 August in Santiago. Organised by Editec Publications, which is the leading technical and business publishing and media group in Chile’s mining industry, the Conference was aimed at the main stakeholders of the local mining industry.
The 11th version of Medmin discussed the status of the local and global small and medium scale mining sector, with a special focus on copper and gold. The Chilean Mining Under-Secretary, Ignacio Moreno; the Vice-President of the National Mining Association (SONAMI), Diego Hernández, and the Vice-President of the National Mining Company (ENAMI), Jaime Pérez de Arce, were among the VIPs participating in this event. The Director of the Santiago office of the new Department of International Trade, Trevor Hines, and the Mining Officer, Viviana Daza, also attended in order to discuss the innovative solutions for the mining sector that the UK can offer.
Being Chile the largest copper producer worldwide, during the past two years the Mining Office of the British Embassy in Santiago has participated in the main Mining Exhibitions held in the country with four business delegations, including +80 companies from the mining and vocational fields. The main purpose of the British participation at mining events is to strengthen the importance of the British innovative solutions for the mining pipeline projects currently available in this sector not only in Chile but also in other mining countries in Latin America.
