Minister Duncan statement on Linda Carty case

Minister for the Americas comments on the Linda Carty court case decision.

This was published under the 2016 to 2019 May Conservative government

A Texas court has dismissed Linda Carty’s latest appeal against her death sentence which was handed down in 2002.

Responding to the decision, Minister for the Americas Sir Alan Duncan said:

I am disappointed by the decision to dismiss Linda Carty’s latest appeal. The British government is deeply opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances. We have long held concerns about the handling of Ms Carty’s case and will continue to raise these with the relevant authorities. We will continue to provide assistance to Ms Carty and her family.
