Minister for Pakistan welcomes start of the electoral process
Pakistan’s people have much to be proud of: its National Assembly has successfully completed its full term for the first time
Commenting on the appointment of the caretaker Prime Minister in Pakistan today, Baroness Warsi Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said:
Pakistan’s people have much to be proud of: its National Assembly has successfully completed its full term for the first time and an interim caretaker Prime Minister has been appointed for the period before the elections take place on 11 May 2013. These elections will be a crucial milestone in Pakistan’s democratic history - the first time it will see a democratic transfer of power between civilian governments, after a full parliamentary term. I believe the elections will be a vital step on the path to a strong, stable and democratic Pakistan and I look forward to credible and acceptable elections on 11 May.
