Minister for the Middle East statement on the new government in Jordan

Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood congratulates Jordan on elections that EU observers have described as inclusive and well administered.

This was published under the 2016 to 2019 May Conservative government

Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood, said:

I welcome the announcement of a new government in Jordan following parliamentary elections on 20 September.

I congratulate Jordan on elections that EU observers have described as inclusive and well administered. They are an example to a region beset by civil and ongoing violence. The people of Jordan should be proud of exercising their democratic will.

The UK and Jordan relationship has never been stronger and we look forward to working with the new government across the range of our bilateral priorities. We are committed to continuing our support for Jordan’s security and stability, to implementing the Jordan Compact agreed at the London Syria Conference, and to supporting His Majesty’s vision for long-term economic reform.
