Ministerial appointment: Baroness Shields

The Queen has approved the appointment of Baroness Shields OBE as a joint Minister for DCMS and the Home Office.

This was published under the 2015 to 2016 Cameron Conservative government

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Minister for Internet Safety and Security, Baroness Shields OBE, as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office. This is in addition to her current role as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

  • Baroness Shields was appointed to government on 13 May 2015 as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Internet Safety and Security at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport

  • Her remit is to help make the internet a safer place by working to curb online abuse, exploitation, bullying and access to harmful content, including terrorist and extremist content; and by promoting safe, open access to the internet for everyone

  • Given this remit covers Home Office policy as well as Department for Culture, Media and Sport policy, the Prime Minister has decided to make Baroness Shields a joint Minister for both departments

  • Her role is unpaid
