Ministry of Justice joins shared services programme set to save £300m
Government announces that the Ministry of Justice has moved onto the wider Shared Services strategy for government, saving £300million by 2024.
This marks a major milestone for the Government’s Shared Services programme with the transfer of approximately 75,000 Ministry of Justice (MoJ) employees’ data onto the single IT operating platform during the past month.
MoJ’s migration is part of the government’s transfer of back-office functions, including human resources, finance and payroll, to the Shared Services programme. The programme is creating more efficient and cost-effective services for government and the wider public sector.
As well as making significant savings the platform is also secure, sustainable and easily upgraded for the future.
Minister for the Constitution, Chris Skidmore said:
I welcome this important step towards realising over £300 million of savings for the taxpayer through implementing shared services across Government.
We are addressing the challenges involved in cross-government business transformation and the programme is successfully delivering one of the biggest IT platforms for government in Europe with over 300,000 users.
Shared service centres deliver business services at a significantly lower cost to the taxpayer while ensuring effective services for government and the public sector wherever possible.
