Moving Coronation celebration in Paraguay
The British Ambassador to Paraguay Ramin Navai and his wife Paola Victoria hosted a community gathering on Saturday 6 May, in celebration of the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The gathering took place in the morning hours to “accompany the coronation as close as possible to its live schedule”, in the words of H.E. Ambassador Ramin Navai. Those who attended the event were able to enjoy themed decorations based on Coronation celebrations in the UK and around the world, and followed the broadcast of the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on giant screens.
Ambassador Navai gave a welcome, emphasising the historical significance of this event. He briefly commented on the participation of the President of the Republic of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benítez at the ceremony in the UK, as well as the visible emotion of His Majesty King Charles III, emotion shared by those in attendance.
The menu followed Buckingham Palace’s instructions with the Coronation Quiche as the main course, accompanied by a green salad with boiled potatoes and vinaigrette. Dessert, also a special recipe for the coronation, was a Trifle based on Yorkshire Cake, strawberry jelly and ginger cream.
Much like the ceremony in the UK, His Majesty’s passion for the natural world, gardening and British flora marked the local celebration in details such as the natural flower centrepiece, the menu and the image design of the event. Mrs. Paola Victoria coordinated decoration for the event.
The celebration culminated with the broadcast of the Archbishop of Canterbury laying the crown on His Majesty King Charles III, followed by a toast to the sound of “God Save the King” and a live rendition of the well-known British anthem.
