Myth bust: Daily Telegraph claim that Government planned to relax planning restrictions in National Parks
The Government never had any intention to change the protection that National Parks have in the planning system.
The myth: Today’s Daily Telegraph wrongly reports that the Government planned to relax restrictions on building in National Parks.
The truth: This is not the case. The Government never had any intention to change the protection that National Parks have in the planning system. The suggestion that National Parks should be given a third purpose, on socio-economic development, was put forward by an independent group of MPs in 2010. We decided not to consult on their proposal as we do not agree that there should be any change or additions to National Parks’ two important purposes of conservation and recreation and we do not think that there is a problem with how they currently deliver sustainable development.
