Namibian youth engage in Model UN debate on PSVI
Prior to the global PSVI summit, the High Commission, HRDC, and UNDP are hosting a Model UN: PSVI simulation at UNAM on 07 June.
The UK Foreign Secretary William Hague and Special Envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Angelina Jolie will host a global summit on the “Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict-Initiative” (PSVI) in London between 10-13 June. 10 June is the designated Youth Day.
The British High Commission, the Human Rights Documentation Centre (HRDC) of the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) therefore are hosting a Model UN: Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict - Youth Debate/Summit at the New Library Building, Video-Conferencing Room, UNAM, main campus, on Saturday, 07 June, 08:00-17:30.
21 Namibian students, representing 21 different countries, will debate in a Model UN simulation the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative and come up with a resolution to feed into the discussions of the global PSVI summit taking place in London from 10-13 June 2014. 12 out of the 21 countries represented at the Model UN simulation have representations in Namibia. Resident Ambassadors of these countries will attend the opening of the Model UN PSVI debate on 07 June. A representative of the Namibian Government, British High Commissioner to Namibia, Marianne Young and UN Country Representative, Musinga T. Bandora, will address the participating students.
At the end of the Model UN simulation regarding PSVI, the UNAM students will come up with a declaration, which the British High Commission is going to share with the Foreign Secretary William Hague and with the Namibian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Hon. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will attend the PSVI Summit in London, on behalf of the Namibian Government.
