National Assembly installed Venezuela – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group
The Venezuela – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group will foster closer links between both parliaments and promote deeper bilateral relations at every level.
British Ambassador John Saville emphasized that the Venezuela – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group will foster closer relations between both countries.
Caracas, 18 May 2016. On 17 May 2016 the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela formally installed the Venezuela – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group. It will be headed by the First Deputy President of the National Assembly, Enrique Márquez.
During the inauguration ceremony, the President of the National Assembly, Henry Ramos, emphasized the historical links between the UK and Venezuela. He especially singled out the role played by the British Legion during the Venezuelan independence war.
The British Ambassador to Venezuela, John Saville, indicated the important role that the group will play in fostering closer links between both parliaments. He also said that it will promote the deepening of relations between Venezuela and the UK at every level.

Ambassador John Saville expressed his desire for the National Assembly to be able to “work constructively with all political, economic and social sectors” in Venezuela. Likewise, he underlined his hope that UK cooperation can contribute to promote this dialogue.
The Venezuela – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group will comprise representatives from all political sectors. It will include five MPs from the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) coalition and three MPs from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
