New British Film Festival

The Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow, in partnership with CoolConnections, will present the 19th New British Film Festival.

The festival will take place in Moscow and other Russian cities between 2 and 18 November 2018. This annual overview of the latest UK films will start in Moscow on 2 November at the October cinema in Moscow with Colette, a historical drama by Wash Westmoreland starring Keira Knightley as the famous French writer.

The programme includes On Chesil Beach, a psychological drama by Dominic Cooke, based on Ian McEwan’s novel, featuring Billy Howle and Saoirse Ronan, Richard Loncraine’s comedy Finding Your Feet, starring Timothy Spall, Imelda Staunton and Celia Imrie, Dark River with Ruth Wilson, Disobedience with Rachel Weiss as both star and producer, Funny Cow, an eccentric comedy by Adrian Shergold, starring Maxine Peake, and a dozen other films including debuts by new talents and works by established directors.

Scottish actress Karen Gillan, who came into prominence as ‘Amy Pond’ in the British Dr Who TV series, makes her feature film directorial debut with The Party’s Just Beginning, which will be presented at the festival as well

The New British Film Festival was established by the British Council in 1999 and for over ten years has been co-organised by CoolConnections. In 2018 it is supported by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow. New British Film Festival’s education programme is supported by Moscow Film School.
