New Chair of Parole Board announced
Nick Hardwick has been appointed as the new Chair of the Parole Board.
Message from Martin Jones, interim Chief Executive Officer of the Parole Board:
I am delighted with the news that the Secretary of State for Justice has today announced the appointment of Nick Hardwick as the new chair of the Parole Board. As the outgoing Chief Inspector of Prisons, Nick already has an in-depth understanding of some of the issues facing the Parole Board and the importance of rehabilitation. Nick was also previously an external member of the Board’s Review Committee.
Nick’s appointment will of course mean that Sir David Calvert-Smith will soon be leaving us. On behalf of the Board, I would like to pay tribute to Sir David’s significant contribution to the Board’s work over the last 4 years, and for his invaluable guidance to me over recent months.
On accepting the appointment, Nick Hardwick said:
I am very much looking forward to joining the Parole Board. I have a lot to learn but I already know how challenging, important and sensitive their work is. It is a privilege to have an opportunity to contribute.
