New consultation on code of practice for CCTV and ANPR
A new consultation on how to regulate the use of CCTV and automatic number plate recognition technology was launched today.
The consultation will give operators and members of the public the chance to have their say on how the use of this technology can be made more proportionate and effective.
The consultation will ask for views on a possible checklist of actions before cameras are installed, the standards of footage, better information for the public about cameras in their area and also how long footage should be retained.
The consultation is the first step towards a new code of practice, as set out in the Protection of Freedoms Bill, which was introduced in Parliament on February 11.
The consultation can be viewed online and will run for 12 weeks.
