New Member Appointed to Committee

The Rt Hon Lord Stunell OBE has been appointed to the Committee on Standards in Public Life.

The Rt Hon Lord Stunell OBE is a Liberal Democrat Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 26 October 2015. From 1 December 2016 he replaces Lord (John) Alderdice who previously served as the Liberal Democrat member on the Committee.

Lord Stunell previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Hazel Grove. Previously, he held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Communities and Local Government) (2010 to 2012) in government. He was also Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (2006 to 2007), Shadow Secretary of State (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) (2006 to 2006), Shadow Chief Whip (Commons) (2001 to 2006), Shadow Spokesperson (Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) (1997 to 2005) in opposition.

In addition, the Rt Hon Margaret Beckett DBE MP was reappointed to the Committee on 31 October 2016 for a further 3 years.
