New procedures make it simpler and cheaper for Brits to get married in Japan
If Valentine’s Day had you thinking about spending the future together with the one you love, we are excited to announce that for British nationals it is about to become much quicker, easier and cheaper to arrange the marriage documents you need.
From 1 March 2015, Japanese city and ward offices will begin accepting an Affidavit or Affirmation of Marital Status sworn at British Embassy in Tokyo or Consulate-General in Osaka.
This replaces the need to obtain a Certificate of No Impediment and wait for a 7 day notice period. The change means British nationals can now obtain all necessary Embassy documentation through a same-day service.
The process is not only quicker but also less than half the previous price. So if you’re thinking of tying the knot, you’ve now got one more reason to do so!
