New Veterinary Medicines Regulations coming into force on 17 May 2024
New legislation in Great Britain will make changes to the requirements set out in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013.
The legislation to modernise the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013 (VMR) was introduced in Parliament on the 4 March and made on 25 April.
The Veterinary Medicines (Amendment etc.) Regulations 2024 will maintain the UK as an attractive place to develop and market veterinary medicines, and apply from the 17 May 2024.
The VMR set out the controls on the marketing, manufacture, distribution, possession, and administration of veterinary medicines and medicated feed. They are a critical tool to help protect animal health, public health and the environment.
To provide stakeholders with time to ensure compliance with specific new or amended requirements, the legislation includes transitional provisions for some requirements.
We continue to work with our stakeholders to help them implement the changes and to support their compliance with the Regulations. We will publish updated guidance that reflects the changes, which will be available from 17 May under Veterinary Medicines Guidance on GOV.UK.
Further information can be found on the VMD Information Hub.
