Discussions covered shared interests in Europe, Northern Ireland and international trade.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said:

As close neighbours, it’s important that the UK and Ireland continue to regularly discuss issues that are top of the international agenda which impact on our countries and our economies.

Our meeting today has reinforced the close working relationship between myself and the Tánaiste and enabled us to discuss our shared growth and deregulation agendas as well as recent developments on economic and financial issues.

On Northern Ireland, we agreed on the importance of both government’s continued commitment to Northern Ireland including tackling the long-term challenges of economic renewal and reducing community division.
