Nominations now open for the Lord Ferrers Awards 2016
Do you know a police volunteer who deserves special recognition? Nominate them in our annual awards in celebration of police volunteers in England and Wales.
Do you know an inspirational police volunteer who makes a difference to their community? Nominate them for a Lord Ferrers Award, our annual awards which pay tribute to the vital role police volunteers play in support of policing.
Anyone can nominate a special constable, police support volunteer or volunteer police cadet for an individual or team award.
Nominations are open until Sunday 17 July 2016. Make your nomination today and help us celebrate police volunteers in England and Wales.
Award categories

Employer Supported Policing Award: recognises organisations that support their employees to volunteer in policing and includes those accredited under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme

Leadership Award (sponsored by the Association of Special Constabulary Chief Officers): for individual special constables who have demonstrated a significant and sustained contribution to leadership

Give us as much information on what the nominee has achieved as you can. Please be aware that:
- you can nominate up to 3 teams or individuals per application and you can make more than one application
- we can’t accept ‘self’ nominations from individuals or teams
- we can’t shortlist nominations where long service, extra hours or bravery are the sole case for nomination; these are recognised by other awards

Use of information
The nominee must agree to all press activity as authorised by their force, the Home Office and the College of Policing, including the details of their nomination being used to promote the Lord Ferrers Awards, policing and volunteering more widely.
About the Lord Ferrers Awards
The Lord Ferrers Awards recognise the contribution police volunteers make to policing. By giving up their free time, volunteers make communities safer and enhance the effectiveness of policing across England and Wales.
The awards were created by a previous Home Office minister Lord Ferrers, and were first held in 1993 when they were known as the Special Constable and Police Support Volunteer Awards. They have since been renamed in memory of Lord Ferrers, who died on 13 November 2012.
Winners and runners up will be presented with their awards by a Home Office minister at the awards ceremony in September.
Key dates and ceremony information for 2016:
- Sunday 17 July: nominations close
- July and August: shortlisting takes place
- September: awards ceremony
All winners and runners up will be invited to the awards ceremony in September 2016. More information about the ceremony, including the number of guest places will be confirmed.
