Ouarzazate; increased participation of Moroccan women in political life
Moroccan Civil Society led by Mouvement Parité et Democratie leads on a debate on Political participation and representation of women in the Ouarzazate / Zagora region: Lever of local, provincial, and regional development.
Within the framework of the Arab Partnership funded project “Political participation and representation of women: Lever of local, provincial, and regional development”, the Movement for Democratic Parity (MDP) organised a seminar entitled For a regionalization guaranteeing equality, parity and democratic development on 2 May 2015 to raise awareness about women’s political participation and present a memorandum of recommendations for more equality and parity.
The event was attended by over 150 civil society members and provided a good avenue to highlight the constitutional gains brought by the 2011 constitution, particularly regarding the principal of parity between men and women and the laws that aim at strengthening women’s participation in various fields. The seminar also managed to mobilise and sensitise the local actors in order to push in the direction of a democratic regionalisation guaranteeing equality and parity.
Mark Bell, Head of projects at the British Embassy, was delighted to be able to attend this event in Ouarzazate, which saw significant involvement of civil society in the important topic of women’s political participation.
