Our PhD placements
The Open Innovation Team’s PhD placements build skills and provide students with an insight into what it is like to work in government
In addition to our growing team of permanent civil servants, we also have between five and 10 PhD placement students working with us at any given time. These students work alongside our permanent staff, helping input on policy projects and also contributing to team development.
Successful candidates to our programme can expect to work on a diverse range of policy projects within government. During a placement opportunity we would expect PhD’s to work on several policy projects as well as contributing to other team activities. Successful applicants should expect to:
- make major contributions to the policy work the team carries out
- help plan workshops, and leading them if they feel confident in doing so
- process, and present a significant amount of the research for a longer-term project
Our placement students also get the opportunity to work on profile building and business development. This includes helping operate our social media channels or finding potential leads for new projects. Students will also get the chance to work on our partner benefits and external training that we offer. All PhD placement work aims to build skills and provide students with an insight to what it is like to work on policy and in government.
The current round of placements is closed. This page will be updated with details for the next round of placements, which is expected to be held in Summer 2025.
