Over 175 UK employers pledge to give women a voice in the workplace

A record 2 million employees covered by the Government’s Think, Act, Report scheme

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Over 175 UK employers are helping drive forward greater equality for women by pledging to progress and promote female talent in their workplace.

Companies from a wide range of sectors including the entertainment, tourism, retail, engineering and finance sectors have signed up to the Governments Think, Act, Report campaign.

The voluntary scheme aims to create a cultural shift by encourage businesses to think about gender equality, take action to promote equal opportunities in their workplaces and report on what they are doing.

A recoded 2 million employees are now covered and huge progress has been made with nearly one UK company now signing up every working day. Positive action to promote opportunities for women includes:

  • 66% of companies sign up to Think, Act, Report are doing more to encourage female talent within their company – such as introducing mentoring and sponsorship schemes, putting in place targeted development programmes, and encouraging women to take high-profile jobs

  • nearly half (48%) have completed an equal pay audit in the last year – demonstrating their commitment to tackling the gender pay gap

Commenting on the progress made, Women and Equalities Maria Miller said:

It’s fantastic news that so some many companies have now signed up, these employers recognise the enormous potential of women in their workplace and are already taking action to nurture and progress female talent.

I’d like to personally thank each and every one of them for helping drive forward the cultural shift we need to ensure gender equality is embedded in very single workplace across the UK.
