The closure will be in place between 10pm and 5.30am, with southbound traffic diverted in a contraflow through the east tunnel.

Northbound traffic will be limited to just the west tunnel, which has a height limit of 4.8 metres (15’9’’). The closure will allow general maintenance – including bridge inspections, carriageway sweeping and cleaning, lighting maintenance, calibration of the ice sensors and replacing electronic signs on the overhead gantries – to be carried out together in one night.

Southbound traffic will be briefly held while the contraflow is installed and removed at the beginning and end of the work.

Drivers of tall vehicles – over 4.8 metres northbound and 5 metres southbound – will be diverted via the western section of the M25.

Highways England provides live traffic information via its website, iPhone and Android apps and electronic road signs. Travel information is also available by phone from the Highways England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 and via @HighwaysSEAST on Twitter.
