Overnight resurfacing work on A303 at Wincanton
Work will start on Wednesday, 22 October to resurface a three mile section of the A303 between Wincanton Junction and Sparkford Roundabout.
Resurfacing work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and continue for six weeks. No work will be carried out on Saturday or Sunday nights.
Paul Vosper, Highways Agency Project Sponsor said:
The resurfacing work is part of the government’s commitment to maintaining England’s roads and will ensure smoother journeys and maintain safety.
The work has been planned to minimise disruption and that is why work will take place overnight when traffic flows are lowest. We do not expect any delays as a result of the works.
There will be a signed diversion route in place for this closures via the A371 and A359.
Additionally, the side roads joining the A303 eastbound and westbound between the Wincanton Junction and the Sparkford Roundabout will be closed depending on where the resurfacing works are taking place.
The roads affected by these closures are the:
- road from the A359 to the A303 eastbound
- road from Parish Hill to the A303 westbound
- road from Parish Hill to the A303 eastbound
- unnamed road in the proximity to Blackford Hollow to the A303 westbound
- unnamed road in the proximity to Blackford Hollow to the A303 eastbound
There will be a signed diversion route in place for the side road closures – the side road traffic wishing to join the A303 will be directed to the main A303 closure diversion route as above.
Daytime lane closures will also be kept in place for the safety of the travelling public throughout the duration of these works including some weekends. This will result in either the eastbound or westbound carriageways reduced to single lane running during the daytime for sections within the works.
