The government has today published a report providing an overview of responses to the consultation on strengthening the NHS Constitution.
This report sets out changes to the guiding ‘Principles of the NHS Constitution’ only, and does not address any other changes to the constitution. These changes incorporate most of the amendments to the principles proposed in the consultation document, as well as some minor additional changes to reflect consultation feedback and ensure that the principles are consistent with relevant legislation. Regulations to change these principles will be laid before Parliament shortly.
Further information about the government’s response will be available when the updated constitution is published by April 2013.
The consultation followed work by the Future Forum working group on the NHS Constitution, the recommendations of which were accepted by the government and were reflected in the changes proposed.
The consultation ran from 28 November 2012 to 28 January 2013. More than 350 responses were submitted via email, post and online.
