The Queen has been pleased to confer a peerage of the United Kingdom for Life on Sir Mervyn King GBE FBA upon his retirement as Governor of the Bank of England.

- Sir Mervyn King was appointed Governor of the Bank of England in 2003. He was previously Deputy Governor from 1998 to 2003, and Chief Economist and Executive Director from 1991.
