Permanent Adjudicator appointed

Mike McMahon has been appointed as the permanent Adjudicator. He will replace Paul Douglas, the current interim Adjudicator, in September 2023.

Mike McMahon has been confirmed as the new Independent Adjudicator for the Adjudicator’s Office.

Mike has been the Adjudicator’s Office Head of Office since September 2020. Prior to that, he was an ombudsman at the Financial Ombudsman Service. Mike’s experience straddles both operational leadership and complex dispute resolution.

Mike is due to start his new role in September and recruitment to backfill his role as Head of Office will start in due course.

Jim Harra, First Permanent Secretary and Chief Executive of HM Revenue and Customs, said:

“I am very pleased to announce Mike as the Independent Adjudicator for HMRC, Valuation Office Agency and aspects of the Home Office’s work on the Windrush Compensation scheme’’.

“The Adjudicator’s Office provides an essential service for HMRC and our customers – ensuring that rules, standards, guidance and codes of practice are applied fairly and consistently. The Office also provides our organisations with feedback and insight that allows us to improve our services.’’

“I am confident that in addition to dealing with complaints, Mike will help our organisations to learn from complaints and address systematic issues.”
