Peru and UK institutions exchange knowledge to help close the infrastructure gap
The new agreements signed will facilitate the sharing of methodologies used in the UK to design, budget and deliver high quality and timely infrastructure projects.
The Peruvian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) signed two Memorandums of Understanding with institutions from the UK government, to exchange knowledge, experiences and information oriented to the improvement and development of infrastructure investments in Peru.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, María Antonieta Alva, stressed that Peru hopes to continue with this coordinated and bilateral work to capitalize on the best international practices in infrastructure, such as the ones provided by the UK, to contribute to the development of the country:
There is a sense of urgency for closing infrastructure gaps, and therefore, we want to replicate successful experiences that allow us to develop and improve living conditions for all our citizens.
UK Ambassador Kate Harrisson said during the signing of these agreements:
The infrastructure gap is a real problem that affects the productivity and competitiveness of Peru. We want to make sure that the approaches used for the successful execution of the Pan American and Para Pan American Games are also used for the development of high quality roads, ports, irrigation systems, schools and hospitals.
The Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sir Simon McDonald, visited Peru to accompany the signing of the Memorandums and to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Sir McDonald stated:
Peru has been fully incorporated into the Global Infrastructure Programme and the agreements signed today express the commitment between the UK and Peru to continue working together to share methodologies and build institutional capacity to work towards closing the infrastructure gap and to promote sustainable development in the country.
The relationship between the Ministry and the British government on infrastructure issues was reinforced in September 2018 with the establishment of the Working Group on Infrastructure between Peru and the United Kingdom. This Group functions as an important space for sharing experiences and best practices, and it had allowed for the collaboration of the British government in the development of Peru’s first National Infrastructure Plan.
Memorandum of Understanding
The Memorandum of Understanding signed today between Peru and the British Infrastructure and Projects Authority will allow sharing the knowledge and methodologies used in the United Kingdom to design, budget and deliver high quality and timely infrastructure projects.
The agreement with the Center for Digital Built Britain will focus on intensifying the transfer of capabilities in the BIM methodology and thus contributing to effective implementation of the BIM Peru Plan.
