Pharmaceuticals in the Environment Group agrees next steps

Third Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE) Group meeting continue discussions regarding imidacloprid and fipronil.

The cross-government Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE) Group convened on 5 October 2023 to continue discussions regarding levels of imidacloprid and fipronil in UK surface waters.

The Group considered systems process mapping in order to understand the current evidence, as well as regulatory and non-regulatory tools available to inform future activities and strategy. It was agreed that the next step would be for the Group to convene at an in-person workshop for a process mapping exercise.

Following this, the Group will engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities to fill evidence gaps. The Group will then create a road map, including allocated ownership of activities. The process mapping exercise will also help to inform future strategy for other substances of concern.
