Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 11 April to Sunday 17 April
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 8 April 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junctions 1 (A406) to 4 Stanmore, Greater London: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 15 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A406 and A41 to M1 junction 4.
M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 April for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1, the A406 and A41 to the A1.
The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 14 April for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 to join the M1 at junction 4.
M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: structural repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M1 southbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 15 April. A clearly signed diversion for traffic wishing to head anti-clockwise will be in place via the M1 junction 6, A405 and the A41. A clearly signed diversion for traffic wishing to head clockwise will be in place via the A405 to M25 junction 21a.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.
The southbound carriageway between junction 2 and junction 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 6 nights. Work on Saturday and Sunday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 13 and A30 to M3 junction 4.
M4 junctions 1 (A406) to 3 Hayes, Middlesex: drainage clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage clearance will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 11 April for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 and the A312.
M4 junction 4b (M25), Greater London: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M4 westbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5 and return.
M11 junction 6 (M25), Essex: electrical work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The dedicated link roads from both directions of the M11 to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 26 and return.
M23 junctions 8 (M25) to junction 9 Gatwick: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing work will start this week. The carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 13 April, for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 6, A22, A264 to M23 junction 10.
M25 junction 7 (M23), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M25 in both directions to the M23 southbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 13 April for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion for anti-clockwise drivers will be in place via M25 junction 6, A22, A264 and the M23. A clearly signed pre-diversion for clockwise drivers will be in place from M25 junction 6, where drivers will join the diversion route specified above.
M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: smart motorway improvement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out smart motorway improvements on the M3 continue this week. The M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 6 nights. Work on Saturday and Sunday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13 and A30 to M3 junction 4.
M25 junction 15 (M4), Greater London: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 to junction 5 and return.
M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will continue this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 12 April for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 22 and return.
M25 junctions 21a St Albans to 20 Watford, Hertfordshire: structural repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 15 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405 and the A41.
The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 15 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405 to M1 junction 6.
M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping/electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 11 April. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 24 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 22 and return.

M25 junction 24 Potters Bar, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 12 April. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 25 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 23 and return.
M25 junction 25 (A10), Hertfordshire: safety barrier repair/carriageway sweeping
Work to maintain safety by carrying out safety barrier repairs will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 11 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.

M25 junctions 31 Lakeside to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road between junctions 31 and 30.
A3 Ockham, Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 12 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via B2039, Forest Road, Horsley Road, Downside Road, Bridge Road and the A245 to the Painshill junction.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 April, for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 15 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012.
The eastbound A13 entry slip road at M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 13 April for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 31, A1306 and A1012.

A21 (M25) Chipstead, Kent: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The A21 northbound dedicated link road to the M25 clockwise (junction 5) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 11 April. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 4 and return.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 15 April for 2 nights. Work on Saturday will start at 8.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Monday 11 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Tuesday 12 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 13 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 14 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Friday 15 April (9pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Saturday 16 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Sunday 17 April (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
A316 Feltham, Greater London: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will continue this week. The westbound carriageway and entry slip road at the Snakey Lane/Nallhead Road junction will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 11 April for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A316 eastbound, A312, A311 and the A308.
