Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 12 September to Sunday 18 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 9 September 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 5 Watford, Hertfordshire: litter clearance / resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance and resurfacing continues this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 6 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 4 and return.
The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4, the A41 and return.
M1 junction 6 Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will take place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 13 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 8 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A405, A414 to M1 junction 8.
The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 14 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 5 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A405, A414 to M1 junction 8.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorways improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery services operating 24 hours a day.
The southbound M3 will be closed between junctions 2 and 4a overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30, A327 to M3 junction 4a.
M4 junction 3 Cranford, Greater London: drainage survey
Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage surveys will start this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 14 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A312, A40, M40, M25 anti-clockwise to junction 15 for the M4.
M4 junction 4b (M25), Berkshire: drainage survey
Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage surveys will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M4 eastbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 13 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.
M4 junction 5 Langley, Berkshire: bridge joint replacement
Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement continues this week. The carriageway will be closed between the slip roads overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 17 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.
M11 junction 5 Chigwell, Essex: vegetation cutting and planting
Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will take place this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1168, A121, A104, A406 eastbound to the M11.
M25 junction 3 Swanley, Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will take place this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 2nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.
M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: white lining
Work to maintain safety by carrying out renewing the white lining will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 8 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 4 and return.
M25 Cobham Services, Surrey: electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10 and return.
M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: litter clearance / resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance and resurfacing will take place this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 13 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 11 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 9 and return.
The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Wednesday 14 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 9 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 11 and return.
The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am on Saturday 17 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11 and return.
M25 junction 20 Kings Langley, Hertfordshire: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, from Friday 16 September for 3 nights. Work on Saturday and Sunday will take place between 10pm and 5.30am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 18 and return.
M25 junction 23 (A1M), Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement
Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure over the A1(M) continues this week. The southern section of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to Stirling Corner and return.
M25 junction 25 Enfield, Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will take place this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.
M25 junctions 30 (Thurrock) to 31 (Lakeside), Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
Work starts on a new phase on the northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30 this week. A lane closure will be in place on the northbound link road between 7.30am and 5.30pm (Monday to Friday) and between 7am and 1pm on Saturdays.
Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and allow additional time. The anti-clockwise exit slip road at junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 29 and return.
The northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, A1012 and A13 to M25 junction 30.
The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads at junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 13 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads at the junction.
The anti-clockwise entry slip road at junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 September for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128, A127 and M25 junction 29.
The dedicated southbound link road between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13 to Wennington and A1306 to M25 junction 31.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M40 eastbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M40 junction 1 and return.
A3 Hook to Esher, Surrey: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 13 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A243 southbound, M25 junction 9 and the A244 via Oxshott to Esher.
A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance continues this week. The northbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Ockham junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Painshill junction and return.
A3 Ockham, Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Burpham junction.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The eastbound A13 entry slip road from M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road to junction 31, A1306 and A1012 to North Stifford.
The eastbound A13 between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.

A40 Denham, Buckinghamshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed, overnight between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 15 September. A clearly signed pre-diversion will be in place via the Swakeleys Roundabout, B483 and A4020.
The eastbound entry slip road will be closed, overnight between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4020, B483 and Swakeleys Roundabout.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week.
The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Monday 12 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Tuesday 13 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 14 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 15 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Friday 16 September (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Saturday 17 September (9pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
- Sunday 18 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed, overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance
Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 16 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.
The northbound exit slip road will have one lane closed from 10pm on Saturday 17 September until 5am on Monday 19 September to enable BT work to take place.
A316 Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey: vegetation cutting and planting
Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will start this week. The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A308 and A312.
A1089 (A13), Essex: white lining
Work to maintain safety by renewing the white lining will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A1089 northbound to A13 westbound will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A128 and return.
