Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 13 June to Sunday 19 June
Planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 10 June 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: lighting repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out lighting repairs continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41, A406 and M1 junction 1.
The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 18 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 junction 1, A406, A41 and the A1.
M1 junction 5 Watford, Hertfordshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 13 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 6 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 4 and return.
M1 junctions 5 Watford to 1 (A406), Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41, A1 and A406 to M1 junction 1.
M1 junction 6 Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 14 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 8 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A405 and the A414 to M1 junction 8.
The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 15 June. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 5 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 8 and return.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.
M4 junctions 4 (M4 Spur Road) to 3 (A312), Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 2 nights and on Sunday 19 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 Spur Road, A4 and A312 to junction 3.
M4 junction 3 (A312) to 2 (Kew), Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing starts this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 15 June for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A312 and the A4.
M25 junctions 11 Chertsey to 10 (A3), Surrey: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line will continue this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 18 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A317, A320, A245 and A3 to M25 junction 10.
M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 13 June for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 22 and return.
M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 7 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.
M25 junction 25 (A10), Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A10 and A121 to M25 junction 26.
The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 15 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.
The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1055, A1010, A121, A10 and M25 clockwise to junction 26 and return.
M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 16 June. A clearly signed pre-diversion will be in place via M25 junction 29, the A127, A128 and A13.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: abnormal load movement
Work to enable the movement of an abnormal load over the QEII Bridge will take place this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 1am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.
A2 Dartford Heath, Kent: electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 13 June for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 2 roundabout and return.
A3 Esher, Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 13 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A3 northbound to the Tolworth junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Painshill junction and return.
The northbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 14 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A3 southbound to the Painshill junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via Tolworth and return.
A3 Painshill, Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 15 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Wisley junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Esher junction and return.
The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 16 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Esher junction and return.
A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Ockham junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Painshill junction and return.
A10 Enfield, Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound carriageway between Great Eastern Road and M25 junction 25 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A10, A121, A1010 and A1055.
The southbound carriageway between M25 junction 25 and Bullsmoor Lane will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 15 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 24, A10, A121, A1010 and A1055.
The northbound carriageway between Bullsmoor Lane and M25 junction 25 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1055, A1010, A121 and A10.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 13 June for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1306.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 15 June for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012.

A40 Denham, Buckinghamshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 16 June. A clearly signed pre-diversion will be in place via the Swakeleys Roundabout, B467, B483, A4020 to Denham roundabout.
The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4020, B483 and B467 to Swakeleys roundabout.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 14 June for 2 nights and between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 17 June for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: abnormal load movement
Work to enable the movement of an abnormal load over the QEII Bridge will take place this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 1am, on Friday 17 June. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.
- Monday 13 June (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Tuesday 14 June (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 15 June (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 16 June (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Friday 17 June (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
- Saturday 18 June (9pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 14 June for 2 nights, and between 11pm and 1am on Friday 17 June.
