Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 22 February to Sunday 28 February
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 19 February 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 22 February for 7 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 to join the M1 at junction 4.
M3 junctions 1 Sunbury-on-Thames to 2 (M25), Surrey: electrical work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work starts this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am from Saturday 27 February for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A308 and A30 to M25 junction 13.
M3 junctions 1 Sunbury-on-Thames to 3 Lightwater, Surrey: electrical work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work starts this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am from Monday 22 February for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will continue until 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A308, A30 and A322 to M3 junction 3.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.
The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 – including the junction 3 entry slip road – will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will take place between 9pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 – including the junction 3 entry slip road – will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 February for 5 nights. On Friday work will take place between 9pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30.
M4 junctions 3 Hounslow to 1 Chiswick: drainage work
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will start this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 25 February for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A4/A312 to junction 1.
M4 junction 5, Colnbrook, Berkshire: safety barrier repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to the barrier will start this week. The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 22 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.
M20 junction 1 Swanley, Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The westbound link road to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20 and A225 to re-join the M25 at junction 1b.
M23 junction 7 (M25), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound and southbound link roads to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Friday 26 and Sunday 28 February. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 8 and return.
M25 junctions 3 Swanley to 2 (A2), Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway and entry slip road at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20 and A225 to re-join the M25 at junction 1b.
M25 junction 5 Sevenoaks, Kent: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs starts this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 24 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A21 southbound to the junction with the A25 and return.
M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs starts this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 23 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.
M25 junction 8 Reigate, Surrey: electrical work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 22 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.
M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway resurfacing will continue this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed between the exit and entry slip roads overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 10 roundabout.
The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 27 February for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11 and return.
M25 junctions 11 Chertsey to 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway repairs will continue this week. 2 lanes on the anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed between 5am and 9am on Sunday 28 February. In addition, 1 lane on the junction 11 entry slip road will also be closed.
M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: electrical work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will take place between 9pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30 and the A322 to M3 junction 3.
M25 junction 16 (M40), Buckinghamshire: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will take place this week. The clockwise link road to the M40 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 22 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 17 and return.
M25 junction 18 Chorleywood, Hertfordshire: safety barrier repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to the barrier will take place this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 26 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20.
M25 junction 20 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire: electrical repair
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 22 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 18 and return.
M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will continue this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 22 February for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 23 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 21a and return.
M25 junction 25 (A10), Hertfordshire: tunnel maintenance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance takes place this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday 24 February for 4 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: barrier installation
Work to improve safety by carrying out barrier installation work starts this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February for 7 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.
A1 Stirling Corner to junction 1, Greater London: signage maintenance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out signage maintenance starts this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 22 February for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A411, A1000 and A1081 to the M25 junction 23.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 22 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306 and M25 junction 31.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 22 February, for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.
The eastbound A13 entry slip road at M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 24 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 31 and A1012.
The eastbound A13 exit slip road at the A126 junction will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 24 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 25 February, for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306 and A1012.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Friday 26 February for 3 consecutive nights. Work on Monday morning will finish at 5.30am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Monday 22 February (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Tuesday 23 February (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 24 February (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 25 February (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
