Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 26 September to Sunday 2 October
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 23 September 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery services operating 24 hours a day. The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 26 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and M25 junction 13.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 28 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30 and the A327. The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 29 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30 and the A331.
The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 29 September for 2 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327 and A30 to M25 junction 13.
M4 junction 4 spur road Heathrow, Greater London: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound spur road between Tunnel Road West and the M4 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 30 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Newport Road, Bath Road and The Parkway to M4 junction 3.
M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M23 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 26 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M23 southbound to junction 9 and return.
M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: resurfacing / carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing and carriageway sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 27 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.
The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 30 September. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 8 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 4 and return.
M25 junction 7 (M23), Surrey: sign maintenance
Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 27 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.
M25 junction 8 Reigate, Surrey: road marking
Work to maintain safety by carrying out road marking work will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 28 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.
M25 junction 9 Leatherhead, Surrey: road marking
Work to maintain safety by carrying out road marking will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 27 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A243 and M25 clockwise to junction 10 and return.
M25 junctions 11 Chertsey to 10 (A3), Surrey: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line continues this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway and junction 11 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 1 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A317, A320, A245 and A3 to junction 10.
M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: sign maintenance / road marking
Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance and road marking will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 27 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20 and return.
The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 30 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.
M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: sign maintenance / electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance and electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 27 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 23 and return.

M25 junctions 22 London Colney to 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing work will start this week. The clockwise carriageway and junction 22 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Friday 30 September for 3 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1081, A414, A1(M) southbound to junction 1.
M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 26 September. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 24 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 22 and return.
M25 junction 25 (A10), Greater London: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 30 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.
M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am on Thursday 29 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 26 and return.
M25 junctions 30 (Thurrock) to 31 (Lakeside), Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
A temporary road layout is in use on the northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30. The layout will remain in place 24/7 to enable the construction of a retaining wall. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and allow additional time.
The clockwise (southbound) link road from junction 30 to junction 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 26 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A1306 and M25 junction 31.
The anti-clockwise entry slip road at junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 28 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128, A127 and M25 junction 29.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 26 September, and from Thursday 29 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.
A1(M) junctions 1 (M25) to 2 Welham Green, Hertfordshire: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway and junction 1 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 28 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 22, A1081, A414 to the A1(M) junction 3.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The eastbound A13 between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 29 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.
The westbound A13 between North Stifford (A1012) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 26 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306 and M25 junction 31.

A21 Chipstead, Kent: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A21 northbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 26 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 4 and return.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. T
he following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Monday 26 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Tuesday 27 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 28 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 29 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Friday 30 September (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Saturday 1 October (9pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
- Sunday 2 October (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed, overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 26 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance
Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 30 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.
B2211 Chevening Road, Kent: bridge joint replacement
Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the B2211 over the M25 in Sundridge continues this week. The bridge on Chevening Road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 26 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for northbound traffic via the A25, London Road and Morants Court Road to the B2211. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for southbound traffic via Morants Court Road, London Road and the A25.
