Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 29 August to Sunday 4 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 26 August 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorways improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery services operating 24 hours a day.
M20 junction 1 (M25), Kent: safety fence repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out safety fence repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M20 westbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 30 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M20 junction 1/M25 junction 3 roundabout.
M25 junction 2 (A2), Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 3 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip road.
M25 junction 5 (M26), Kent: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M26, A21 and A25.
M25 junction 8 Reigate, Surrey: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 1 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 7, M23 southbound to junction 9 and return.
M25 junction 9 Leatherhead, Surrey: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 30 August for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.
M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: sign maintenance
Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 30 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.
M25 junction 20 Watford, Hertfordshire: sign maintenance
Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 30 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.
The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 21a and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 18 and return.
M25 junction 22 London Colney: Hertfordshire: electrical repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 30 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via junction 21a and return.
M25 junction 23 (A1M), Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement
Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure over the A1(M) continues this week. The southern section of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 30 August for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to Stirling Corner and return.
M25 junction 25 Enfield, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping / electrical repair
Work to improve journeys and maintain safety by carrying out carriageway sweeping and electrical repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 1 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 24 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 26 and return. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, from Friday 2 September for 2 nights. Work on Saturday will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.
M25 junction 26 Waltham Abbey, Essex: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 25 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 28 and return.
M25 junction 29 (A127), Essex: structural inspection
Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The northern half of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Saturday 3 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 28 and return.
M25 junctions 29 (A127) to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A127, A128 and A13.
M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 29 and return.
The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 2 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128, A127 to M25 junction 29.
M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise (southbound) carriageway between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 30 August and on Thursday 1 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via link road between junctions 30 and 31.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 3 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.
A2 (M25), Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 1 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Bean Interchange and return.
A2 Dartford Heath, Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 30 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Black Prince Interchange and return.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 30 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 30 August and from Thursday 1 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012.
The eastbound A13 entry slip road from M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 31 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 31 and the A1306 and A1012 to North Stifford.
A23 London Road North, Merstham, Surrey: gas upgrade
Work by SGN to maintain safety by carrying out gas network upgrades continues this week. One lane (of two) will be closed northbound adjacent to Glebe Road, 24 hours a day, until early-September. A 40mph temporary speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week.
The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Tuesday 30 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Wednesday 31 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Thursday 1 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
- Friday 2 September (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
- Saturday 3 September (9pm to 6am) northbound east tunnel
- Sunday 4 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
The QEII Bridge will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 3 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the east Dartford Tunnel, which will be closed to northbound traffic.
