Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 30 November to Sunday 6 December

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 27 November 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 30 November for 7 consecutive nights. Work on Saturday night will be between 9pm and 8am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1, the A41 and A1.

M1 junction 5 Watford, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The southbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via M1 northbound to junction 6 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 4.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The southbound link roads to both carriageways of the M25 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and the A405.

M4 junction 4b (M25), Middlesex: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The westbound link road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5.

M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The north and southbound link roads to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 1 December for 4 nights and on Sunday 6 December. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway surfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out fine milling will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Friday 4 December for 3 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to upgrade the M3 to a smart motorway. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, the A30 and the A322.

M25 junction 15 (M4), Middlesex: structure maintenance

Work to maintain journeys will start this week. The anti-clockwise link roads to both carriageways of the M4 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 6 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 14.

M25 junction 17 Maple Cross, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 30 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 clockwise to junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 18 Chorleywood, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 1 December for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 clockwise to junction 19 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 17.

The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Sunday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 17 and return.

M25 junctions 19 Watford to 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the Grand Union Canal continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road at junction 20 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 18 and return.

The clockwise carriageway including the entry slip roads at junctions 19, 20 and 21 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41, Hunton Bridge and A405 to M25 junction 21a.

M25 junction 20 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

M25 junction 21 (M1), Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The anti-clockwise link road to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 1 December and Thursday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20.

The clockwise link road to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 21 and the A405.

M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 clockwise to junction 22 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20.

M25 junction 25 Enfield (A10), Hertfordshire: tunnel maintenance/lighting

Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance and repair lighting will continue this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday 2 December for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The clockwise link roads to both carriageways of the M11 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 28.

M25 junction 30 (A13) Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11.30pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128 and A127.

The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road, Mardyke Viaduct and M25 junction 31 entry slip road.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: carriageway marking

Work to improve journeys by carrying out road marking will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.

A1 junction 1 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: drainage work

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for motorway traffic via the A1(M) northbound to junction 2 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for non-motorway traffic via the A1081 to Trotters Bottom.

A1(M) junctions 3 Hatfield to 4 Hertford, Hertfordshire: tunnel maintenance/fan replacement

Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance and fan replacement will continue this week. The northbound carriageway including the entry slip road at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001.

A2 Darenth, Kent: carriageway marking

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway road marking will start this week. The westbound dedicated link road to the A282 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 3 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place on Thursday via junction 1b, and on Friday via the M25/A282 junction 2 roundabout.

A3 Ockham, Surrey: Litter clearance / carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter and carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 3 December for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. On Thursday night a clearly signed diversion will be in place via Forest Road and the A245 to Painshill. On Friday night the diversion will be via the B2215, A247, A3 and the A3100.

A3 Esher, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The southbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A3 northbound to Tolworth interchange and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Painshill interchange.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington and the M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, Mardyke Viaduct to M25 junction 30.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford and the M25 junction 30 including the A126 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 3 December for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road to M25 junction 30.

The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11.30pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128 and A127. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road, Mardyke Viaduct and M25 junction 31 entry slip road.

A20 junction 1 Swanley, Kent: structure maintenance

Work to maintain safety will start this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for motorway traffic via the M20 and for non motorway traffic via London Road and the B2173.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety on the A282 Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 2 and return.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: technology work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out technology works will start this week. The northbound carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 30 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

A282 junctions 2 (A2) to 1b Dartford, Kent: carriageway marking

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway road marking will start this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 2 and 1b, including junction 2 entry slip road, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place to junction 1b.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 30 November (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 1 December (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 2 December (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 3 December (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 4 December (9.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 5 December (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel

A316 Sunbury, Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Hanworth Road, Park Road and Apex Corner.

A405 Watford, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway at the junction for M1 junction 6 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for motorway traffic via the M1 northbound to junction 7 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for non-motorway traffic via Mount Pleasant Lane, West Riding, Park Station Lane, and Tippendell Lane.

A406 Woodford, Greater London: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs will start this week. The westbound link road to the M11 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 30 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Waterworks roundabout.
