Planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 4 March 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 10 March and Saturday 12 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 to join the M1 at junction 4.
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage work will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday 9 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 junction 1, A406, A41 and the A1.
M1 junction 5 Watford: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will take place this week. The northbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 6 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 4 and return.
M1 junction 6 Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will take place this week. The northbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 8 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the northbound entry slip road via A405 and A414 to M1 junction 8. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the northbound exit slip road via junction 5 and return.
The southbound exit and entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 9 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 5 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 6 and return.
M3 junction 1 Sunbury, Surrey: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will continue this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 7 March for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A316 northbound to the Snakey Lane junction and return.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.
The M3 northbound junction 2 link road to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 7 March for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331 and A30 to the M25 junction 13.
The M3 southbound carriageway between the slip roads at junction 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 7 March for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.
M11 junction 6 (M25), Essex: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week.
The dedicated link road from the M11 northbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 9 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M11 junction 7 and return, M25 anti-clockwise to junction 26 and return.
The dedicated link road from the M11 southbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Wednesday 9 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 26 and return.
The dedicated link road from the M11 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 28 and return.
The dedicated link road from the M11 northbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M11 junction 7 and return, M25 clockwise to junction 28 and return.
M20 junction 1 (M25), Kent: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between M25 and the B2173 overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2173.
M25 junction 3 (M20), Kent; electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will take place this week. The clockwise link road to the M20 eastbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 9 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 3 roundabout.
M25 junction 5 Sevenoaks, Kent: signage work
Work to improve journeys by carrying out signage work will take place this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed between the slip roads overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A21 southbound to the A25 and return.
M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will take place this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 8 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 4 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 8 and return.
M25 junction 7 (M23), Surrey: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M23 northbound and southbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.
M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey; carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The southbound dedicated link road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.
M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway resurfacing will continue this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 12 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11 and return.
M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: smart motorway improvement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out smart motorway improvements on the M3 will continue this week. The link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 7 March for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11 and return.
M25 junction 15 (M4), Greater London: signage work
Work to keep road users informed will start this week. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M4 eastbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 junction 5 and return.
The clockwise link road to the M4 westbound will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am on Friday 11 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.
M25 junction 16 (M40), Buckinghamshire: electrical repairs/barrier replacement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will take place this week. The anti-clockwise dedicated link road to the M40 eastbound and westbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 7 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 14 and return.
Work to improve safety by carrying out barrier replacement will take place this week. The anti-clockwise dedicated link road to the M40 eastbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday 9 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40 westbound to junction 2 and return.
M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will take place this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 7 March for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20 and return.
The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 7 March for 7 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.
M25 junction 26 Waltham Abbey, Essex: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will take place this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 28 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 25 and return.
M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: carriageway sweeping
Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will take place this week. The dedicated link roads from the M25 clockwise to the M11 southbound and northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 8 March. M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out major improvements at junction 30 will continue this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads at junction 30.
The M25 clockwise will be closed between the slip roads at junction 30 overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 30 exit and entry slip roads.
The clockwise carriageway between junction 30 and junction 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 8 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via exit slip road at junction 30 and the link road to junction 31.
The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 9 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the QEII Bridge, junction 1a and return.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 9 March and from Friday 11 March for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return. The anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 31 and junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 11 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road at junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.
A1 junction 1 South Mimms – Rowley Lane, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1081, A1000 and A411 to Stirling Corner.
A1(M) junction 4 Hertford: signage work
Work to keep road users informed will start this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 8 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6 and return.
A1(M) junction 5, Welwyn Garden City: signage work
Work to keep road users informed will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.
A2 Dartford Heath to M25, Kent: carriageway retexturing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out retexturing will continue this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 7 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2018, B2174 and A282 to junction 2.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 7 March A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306 and A1012.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between the M25 and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 8 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 31 and the A1012.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 9 March, for 2 nights and between 11pm and 5.30am on Friday 11 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.

A40 junction 1 Denham, Buckinghamshire: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed pre-diversion will be in place via the Swakeleys roundabout, B483 and the A4020.
The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am on Friday 11 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4020, B483 and Swakeleys roundabout.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 10 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.
A282 junction 1b Dartford, Kent: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 8 March for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures. When the QEII Bridge is closed, the diversion for southbound traffic will be through the east tunnel.

A316 Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey: electrical repairs
Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between Hampton Road (Apex Roundabout) and M3 junction 1 overnight, between 10pm and 5am from Thursday 10 March for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A312 and the A308.
