Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 9 May to Sunday 15 May

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 6 May 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junctions 1 (A406) to 5 Watford, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 10 May for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A406 and A41 to M1 junction 5.
M1 junctions 5 Watford to 6 Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 9 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 and the A405 to M1 junction 5.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.
The dedicated link road from the M3 southbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 11 May for 3 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.
M25 junction 10 (A3) Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 11 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 11 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 9 and return.
The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 12 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 9 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 11 and return.
M25 junctions 11 Chertsey to 10 (A3), Surrey: bridge joint replacement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line will continue this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 14 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A317, A320, A245 and A3 to M25 junction 10.
M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: smart motorway improvement
Work to improve journeys by carrying out smart motorway improvements on the M3 continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M3 southbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 11 May for 3 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.
M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: structural repair
Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural repairs will continue this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 9 May for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 26 and return.
M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13 eastbound, A128 and A127 to M25 junction 29.
M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The southbound link road from junctions 30 to 31 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 13 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13 westbound to the Wennington Interchange, and the A1306 to M25 junction 31.
M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.
M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: carriageway resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M40 in both directions to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 17 and return.
A3 Ockham, Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 13 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via B2039, Forest Road, Horsley Road, Downside Road, Bridge Road and the A245 to the Painshill junction.
The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 13 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A3100.
A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance
Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 9 May. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via the Ockham junction and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via the Painshill junction.
The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 10 May. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via the Painshill junction and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via the Ockham junction.
A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day.
There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to M25 junction 30.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 11 May for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012.
The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 11 May for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.
The eastbound A13 carriageway between M25 junction 30 and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 14 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 31, A1306 and the A1012 to North Stifford.

A21 Chipstead, Kent: barrier repair
Work to improve safety by carrying out barrier repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A21 northbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 9 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 anti-clockwise to junction 4 and return.
A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, from Monday 9 May for 3 nights and from Friday 13 May for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 9pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.
A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance
Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:
- Monday 9 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Tuesday 10 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Wednesday 11 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Friday 13 May (9pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Saturday 14 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
- Sunday 15 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
