Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 24 to Sunday 30 October 2016.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 21 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement
Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times by converting the M3 into a smart motorway continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3 including both link roads between the M25 and M3 southbound and the junction 3 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights. The closure on Friday will take place between 8pm and 7am. In addition, the carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Sunday 30 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25, A30 and A322.
The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including the junction 3 entry slip road and both link roads from the M3 northbound to the M25 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 24 October for 7 consecutive nights. The closures on Friday and Saturday will take place between 8pm and 7am, and on Sunday between 10pm and 5.30am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and M25.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 5 including the junction 4 and 4a entry slip roads and the junctions 4a and 5 exit slip roads will be closed with no access to Fleet Services overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights. The closure on Friday will take place between 8pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and A287.
The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 4 including the junction 4a entry slip roads and the junction 4a and 4 exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights. The closure on Friday will take place between 8pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30 and A331.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 including both M25 link roads to the M3 southbound and the junction 3 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday 29 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and A331.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction
Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. 24 hour, narrow lane running and a 40mph speed restriction is in place on the slip roads, and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until November 2017.
M27 junction 3 Southampton, Hampshire: drainage
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout and on the westbound approach to the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 27 October.
M27 junctions 11 to 12 Portchester, Hampshire: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the westbound carriageway and carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. The westbound carriageway from the A2030 Eastern Road junction to junction 11 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Wednesday 26 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27.
In addition, lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 October.
M271 junction 1 Lordshill, Hampshire: development
Work to reduce congestion and improve safety as part of the major Lidl development continues this week. Both exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 28 October. Local diversions will be in place.
A3 Liss/Flexcombe, Hampshire: signage
Work to keep road users informed by repairing damaged signage takes place this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 27 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Ham Barn Roundabout.
A3 Liss (Ham Barn Roundabout), Hampshire: drainage
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout and on the approaches to the roundabout junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 25 October.
A31 Ashley Heath, Hampshire: street lighting
Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the approaches and on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights.
In addition, the westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight on Monday 24 October. The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight on Thursday 27 October and the eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight on Friday 28 October. All closures will take place between 10pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.
A31 St Leonards, Dorset: resurfacing
Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the Woolsbridge Roundabout finishes this week. Both carriageways between the A338 Ashley Heath roundabout and the Boundary Lane roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 5 nights.
A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A338 Spur Road, West Parley, New Road and Ringwood Road.
A31 West Moors, Dorset: street lighting
Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 2 nights. In addition, the eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight on Monday 24 October and the westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight on Tuesday 25 October. All closures will take place between 10pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.
A34 Bullington Cross, Hampshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings continues this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 27 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Whitchurch and Three Maids Hill.
A34 Litchfield, Hampshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings continues this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 25 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Whitchurch and Beacon Hill.
A34 Highclere/Beacon Hill, Hampshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings continues this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 26 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Litchfield and Tot Hill.
A34 Speen, West Berkshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings continues this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 27 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Highclere Common and Donnington.
A34 Chieveley, West Berkshire to Milton, Oxfordshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings continues this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed from the M4 junction to the A4130 Milton Interchange overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 3 nights.
A clearly signed diversion for motorway permitted vehicles will be in place via the M4, A338 and A417. A clearly signed diversion for non-motorway permitted vehicles will be in place via the A4, A338 and A417.
A303 Popham to Bullington, Hampshire: drainage
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Various lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 4 nights.
A303 Norton, Hampshire: signage
Work to keep road users informed by repairing damaged signage takes place this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Bullington Cross.
A303 Longparish, Hampshire: drainage
Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Various lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 and Thursday 27 October.
In addition, the westbound entry slip road at the Longparish junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 24 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Barton Stacey.
A303 Andover, Hampshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings along the A303 continues this week. The eastbound carriageway between the A343 Monxton and A3093 Picket Twenty junctions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 24 October for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Andover.
A303 Andover, Hampshire to Shipton Bellinger, Wiltshire: road marking
Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings along the A303 continues this week. The westbound carriageway from the A343 Monxton junction to the A338 Parkhouse Cross junction will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 28 October.
A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Weyhill, Ludgershall, Tidworth and the A338.
