Planned roadworks in East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 22 August to Sunday 28 August 2016

The following summary of planned new and on-going road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 19 August but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway
Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.
On Monday 22 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:
- southbound exit at junction 3
- southbound carriageway will be fully closed between junction 33 to junction 32
- M1 southbound entry slip will be closed at junction 33
On Tuesday 23 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:
- M1 southbound from junction 33 to junction 32 – full carriageway closure
- southbound entry slip road at junction 33
- northbound entry slip road at junction 35
On Wednesday 24 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:
- southbound carriageway will be fully closed from junction 33 to junction 32
- southbound entry slip road will be closed at junction 33
On Thursday 25 August, the following overnight closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:
- northbound exit slip road at Tibshelf.
- northbound exit slip road at junction 29a.
- northbound entry slip road at junction 29a.
- southbound carriageway between junction 33 and junction 32.
- southbound entry slip road at junction 33.
M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway
The northbound entry slip road at junction 16 will be closed from 22 to 25 August overnight from 9pm to 6am. The entry slip at junction 16 will also be closed overnight from 9pm from 15 to 19 August. The southbound M45 will also be fully closed overnight from 9pm to 6am from 22 August to 29 August.
M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme
The A14 eastbound will be closed from junction 1 to Catthorpe junction; both lane one of the M1 southbound and M1 to A14 eastbound link road and both lane three of M6 southbound and M6 to A14 eastbound link road will also be closed. Lane one on the M6 northbound will also be closed. The A14 closures will be in place overnight from 8pm until 6am and from 9pm to 6am on the M1/A14 and M6/A14. The work is taking place from 25 to 26 August.
Diversion routes:
A14 eastbound traffic will continue south on the M1 to junction 15, then head north-east up the A45 and join the A14 at junction 13.
A43 Abthorpe, Northamptonshire: carriageway repairs
Brackley road will be closed on 25 August from 8pm to 6am. Northbound and southbound will have a lane closure and reduced lane on the roundabout from 30 August to 1 September from 9.30 to 3.30pm. Northbound and southbound will have a lane closure and reduced lane on the roundabout from 5 September to 8 September from 9.30 to 3.30pm.
A42, Leicestershire: carriageway repairs
Work will be taking place on the A42 from junction 13 (Ashby-de-la-Zouch) to the M1 junction at 23a (Castle Donington and the East Midlands Airport).
To complete the scheme, full carriageway closures will be required along with slip roads, with the following working hours:
- 21:00 to 06:00 on weeknights (Monday to Friday)
- 21:00 on Friday to 12:00 on Saturday and from 20:00 on Saturday evening through to 12:00 on Sunday for extended overnight shifts
To ensure the safety of the workforce, the southbound carriageway will also be closed overnight between 15 August to 29 August from 9pm to 6am Monday to Friday and from 8pm on a Saturday night. There will be no work or closures in place on a Sunday night or over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
In addition, there will also be two full weekend closures of the southbound carriageway from 16 September to 19 September and again from 30 September to 3 October. The closure will be in place from 9pm to 6am each day from Friday evening until Monday morning.
As part of the scheme, laybys along the work area will be fully closed, 24-hours-day, during the project. This will help maintain safety and prevent parked vehicles causing disruption to the work programme.
