Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 16 February – Sunday 22 February 2015
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 13 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 junctions 2 to 1, Strood, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing
The London-bound carriageway will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am until the end of February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A278, A2, A289, A228 and back onto the A289.
M20 junctions 6 to 5, Maidstone, Kent: Drainage
Lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Saturday 21 February. One lane on the distributor road and one lane on the London-bound carriageway will be closed, with a 50mph speed limit in place, overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Sunday 22 February.
M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance
Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.
M20 junctions 3 to 13, Kent: White lining and stud replacement
Various lane closures will be in place on both carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am until the end of March.
M23 junctions 8 to 9, West Sussex: Drainage and carriageway survey
Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 5am (Monday to Friday), in both directions until Friday 20 February.
A2 Brewers Lane, Cobham, Kent: Footpath and cycleway reconstruction
The existing footpath / cycleway will continue to be closed along with a hardshoulder closure on the main carriageway between Shorne and Cobham on the coastbound carriageway.
There will also be two way traffic signals on Brewers Road. All work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm (Monday to Friday). Work is due to finish at the end of March.
A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting replacement
One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until the end of March. One lane will also be closed on the Guston Roundabout during this time.
A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation replacement
The London-bound carriageway between Morleys Roundabout and the A21/A25 junction for Westerham will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the end of February. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A225, A224 and the A25.
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit remain on the coastbound carriageway 24/7.
A23 Bolney to Sayers Common, West Sussex: Drainage investigation
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 February for six nights.
A259, Brenzett, Kent: Tree removal
Lane closures and two way traffic lights will remain in place in both directions between 9.30am and 3.30pm each weekday until the end of February.
A259 Guestling, East Sussex: Resurfacing
A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9am and 3pm (Monday to Friday), from Monday 16 February until the middle of March.
A259 Bexhill De La Warr Road, East Sussex: Light column testing
Alternating lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 February for four nights.
A259 Brooklands, East Sussex: Drainage Investigation
Alternating lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 February for five nights.
A27 Crossbush, West Sussex: Resurfacing work
The eastbound carriageway will closed between Crossbush and Patching interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A280, A259 and A284.
A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting renewal
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm to 6am, (Monday to Friday) until the end of March.
A27 Southwick Tunnel, West Sussex: Passage door replacement
The westbound tunnel will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and the A293.
A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: New footbridge construction
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place 24/7 until mid July.
A27 Lewes East, West Sussex: Drainage
A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until mid-April.
A27 Interchange with the A23, Brighton and Hove, West Sussex: Drainage investigation
Lane closures will be in place on the:
- eastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 16 February
- westbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 17 February
- A23 Patcham southern roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 18 February
- A23 coastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Thursday 19 February for two nights
A27 Housedean Cottages to Newmarket Inn, Falmer, East Sussex: Surface investigation
Lane closures will be in place on the:
- westbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 16 February
- eastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 February.
A27 Ditchling Road, Falmer, East Sussex: Surface investigation
Lane closures will be in place on the:
- eastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 18 February
- westbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for two nights from Thursday 19 February.
Safety at roadworks
The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:
- keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
- get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
- concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
- be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
- keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
- observe all signs – they are there to help you
