Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 23 March – Sunday 29 March 2015
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 20 March but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 junctions 2 to 4, Medway, Kent: White lining / road stud replacement
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for four nights.
M2 junctions 4 to 5, Rainham, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing
The London-bound carriageway will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A229, M20 and the A249.
M2 junction 5 to 6, Kent: White lining / road stud replacement
The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Wednesday 25 March for five consecutive nights. A fully clearly diversion will be in place via the A249, M20 and the A251.
M20 junctions 3 to 7, Maidstone, Kent: White lining / road stud replacement
The coastbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 4 and 6 overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Wednesday 25 March for four consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20. Lane closures will be in place concurrently on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 and between junctions 6 and 7.
M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance
Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.
M20 junctions 11 to 13, Folkestone, Kent: White lining / road stud replacement
The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Monday 23 March for three nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20 and the B2064. Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Thursday 26 March for three consecutive nights.
M20 junction 13, Folkestone, Kent: Fencing replacement
Lane closures and two way traffic closures will be in place on Castle Hill Bridge overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for two nights.
M23 junction 9, Horley, West Sussex: Carriageway resurfacing
Lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Saturday 19 April.
M23 junction 11, Crawley, West Sussex: Sign renewal
Lane closures in both directions will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only until April. Both the exit slip road to the coastbound carriageway and the entry slip road from the London-bound carriageway will also be closed during this time.
A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting replacement
One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until the end of March.
A2 Patrixbourne, Kent: Bridge joint replacement
The London-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for three consecutive nights from Friday 27 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A256 and the A299. Work is due to finish at the end of March.
A20 Capel Le Ferne, Dover, Kent: Fencing replacement
Lane closures will be in place between 9am and 3.30pm from Tuesday 24 March for three days.
A21 Kent Street, Kent: Drainage investigation
Lane closures and two-way traffic lights will continue to be in place between Crazy Lane and The Ridge overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for five nights. Work is due to finish mid April.
A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation maintenance
The London-bound carriageway will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for seven nights. In addition, lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the coastbound carriageway, overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March. Work will be carried out each night including weekends.
A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: Carriageway widening
Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 23 March for five nights. Work is due to be complete by Summer 2016.
A21 Whatlington to Seddlescombe, East Sussex: Drainage maintenance
Lane closures and two way traffic lights will continue to be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the end of March.
A259 Brooklands, Kent: Resurfacing and signs
The carriageway will be closed in both directions between Rye and Brenzett overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Thursday 26 March for two nights. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place.
A259 Winchelsea/Icklesham/Guestling, East Sussex: Resurfacing
The carriageway will continue to be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, (Monday to Friday only) for one week from Monday 23 March. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via Lydd Road and the B2075.
A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting maintenance
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm to 6am, (Monday to Friday) until the end of March.
A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: New footbridge construction
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place 24/7 until mid July. Temporary pedestrian traffic lights will be in place on Hunston road adjacent to the work access and across the A27 in both directions east of the roundabout and across Whyke Road. A 30mph speed limit will be in place between Bognor and Stockbridge roundabout. There will be a lane closure on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Thursday 26 March for two nights.
A27 Lancing, West Sussex: Lay-by resurfacing
There will be a lane closure on the westbound carriageway between the Vosa lay-by and the Manor Road Roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 25 March for seven consecutive nights.
A27 Lewes East, West Sussex: Drainage maintenance
A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until mid-April. Safety at roadworks
The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:
- keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
- get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
- concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
- be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
- keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
- observe all signs – they are there to help you
