Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 9 February – Sunday 15 February 2015
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 6 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 junctions 2 to 1, Strood, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing
The London-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 9 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A278, A2, A289, A228 and back onto the A289. Work is due to be complete by the end of February.
M2 junction 5, Kent: Carriageway investigation
Lane closures and a 40mph speed limit will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 9 February.
Lane closures will be in place on the approaches to the Stockbury roundabout and on the roundabout itself overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 10 February and Thursday 12 February.
Lane closures and a 40mph speed limit will be in place on the coastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 11 February.
M20 junctions 6 to 5, Maidstone, Kent: Drainage
Lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Saturday 14 February.
One lane on the distributor road and one lane on the London-bound carriageway will be closed, with a 50mph speed limit in place, overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Sunday 15 February.
M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance
Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.
M20 junction 13 to 3, Kent: White lining and stud replacement
Mobile lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the end of March.
M23 junctions 8 to 9, West Sussex: Drainage and carriageway survey
Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 5am (Monday to Friday), in both directions until Friday 20 February. The southbound exit slip road at junction 9 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, for three nights from Wednesday 11 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10.
M23 junctions 9 to 8 Crabhill: Embankment
One lane will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, on Thursday 11 February.
A2 Brewers Lane, Cobham, Kent: Footpath and cycleway reconstruction
The existing footpath / cycleway will continue to be closed along with a hardshoulder closure on the main carriageway between Shorne and Cobham on the coastbound carriageway.
There will also be two way traffic signals on Brewers Road. All work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm (Monday to Friday).
Work is due to finish at the end of March.
A2 Bean Interchange, Dartford, Kent: Carriageway investigation
Lane closures will be in place on the London-bound entry and exit slip roads overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 9 February.
A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting replacement
One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday only, until the end of March. In addition to this one lane will be closed on the Guston Roundabout during this time.
A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation replacement
The London-bound carriageway between Morleys Roundabout and the A21/A25 junction for Westerham will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the end of February. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A225, A224 and the A25.
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit remain on the coastbound carriageway 24/7.
A23 Bolney to Sayers Common, West Sussex: Drainage investigation
Lane closures and a 40mph speed limit will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 9 February.
A259 Bexhill, East Sussex: Drainage work
A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will continue to be in place on Little Common Road between 9am and 5pm and between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday only) until Friday 13 February.
A259 Bexhill, East Sussex: Street lighting
Lane closures between Belle Hill and De La Warr Road will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 5am, until Wednesday 11 February.
A259 Winchelsea to Rye, Kent: Testing of lighting columns
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for four nights from Monday 9 February.
A27 Crossbush, West Sussex: Resurfacing work
The eastbound carriageway will closed between Crossbush and Patching interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 February (Monday to Friday and Sunday 15 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A280, A259 and A284.
A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting renewal
Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 9.30am and 3.30pm and 8pm to 6am, (Monday to Friday) until the end of March.
A27 Southwick Tunnel, West Sussex: Passage door replacement and routine maintenance
The westbound tunnel will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for four nights from Monday 9 February. The tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Friday 13 February until Saturday 7 March.
A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and A293.
A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: New bridge construction
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place 24/7 from Saturday 14 February.
A27 junction with A285 to Tangmere Roundabout, Tangmere, West Sussex: Pavement Investigation
Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for two nights from Tuesday 10 February.
Lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for two nights from Thursday 12 February.
Safety at roadworks
The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:
- Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.
- Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.
- Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.
- Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.
- Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.
- Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
