Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 13 to Sunday 19 March 2017
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 10 March but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 March there will be a partial closure of Scotch Corner interchange. Then on Thursday 16 March there will be a partial closure of Scotch Corner interchange and a northbound and southbound closure of the carriageway under Scotch Corner interchange with a diversion up and over the junction. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. From 8pm on Friday 3 March through to mid April the junction 56 northbound exit slip will be closed 24/7 with a diversion.
A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, junction 73 to junction 74, Newcastle upon Tyne
There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. From Monday 13 to Sunday 19 March there will be a carriageway closure northbound between 8pm and 6am. All these closures will take place with a diversion in place.
A1 junction 66, Gateshead
There will be a carriageway closure southbound for structural work, taking place on Thursday 16 March between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.
A1 Blagdon to Stannington, Northumberland
There will be carriageway closures for maintenance work. The southbound carriageway will be closed Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 March, and the northbound carriageway will be closed Wednesday 8 to Friday 17 March. All closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place.
A19 Silverlink, North Tyneside
The northern side of the roundabout will be closed Thursday 16 March for 2 nights between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes. This project is due for completion in March 2019.
A66 Long Newton, Stockton on Tees
There will be 24 hour traffic signals in operation on the slip road and interchange for construction work until Wednesday 15th March. Following this there will be an off-peak lane closure in operation along the A66 westbound between Elton Interchange and Long Newton Interchange until Friday 24 March 2017. It is anticipated that the works will be completed by 31 March 2017.
A66 Long Newton, Stockton on Tees
There will be slip road closures in place east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Thursday 23 March between 8pm and 6am. The high load route will be closed overnight from Monday 20 March to Friday 24 March inclusive. The high load route will be open during the day.
A66 Bowes Moor, County Durham
There will be a lane closure eastbound for survey work. This will take place on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 March between 6am and 8pm.
A66 Blands Corner, Darlington Bypass, County Durham
The circulatory will be closed for resurfacing work. This will take place from Saturday 18 to Monday 20 March between 8pm and 6am.
A66 Ravensworth, North Yorkshire
There will be traffic signals in operation east and westbound for survey work. This will take place from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 March between 8pm and 6am.
A19 Holystone Interchange, North Tyneside
There will be a lane closure on the north and southbound slip roads for construction work. This will take place from Monday 13 to Friday 17 March between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
A66 Stockton Road
The slip road from the A19 northbound to the A66 westbound at the A19 A66 Stockton Road junction will be closed for five nights from Monday 13 March between 9pm to 6am for street lighting works.
