Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 18 to 24 January 2016
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 15 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a southbound carriageway closure between Scotch Corner and junction 51, and the northbound will be closed between junction 50 and Scotch Corner. This closure will take place between 8pm and 6am Monday 18 to Sunday 24 January, with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, and southbound between junctions 73 and 67. This will take place Monday 18 to Friday 22 January between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.
A1 Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland
There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. This will take place until Thursday 22 January.
A1 Alnwick to Deanmoor, Northumberland
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The southbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway. This will take place until mid February.
A1 Brownieside, Northumberland
There will be a daytime lane closure in place southbound for survey work. This will take place Wednesday 20 and Thursday 22 January between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham
There will be work ongoing until 18 January for resurfacing and electrical work. The westbound carriageway will be closed until Monday 18 January between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
A66 Bowes to Cross Lanes, County Durham
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until the end of January.
A19 Holystone to Killingworth Interchange, North Tyneside
There will be phases of slip road, carriageway and lane closures north and southbound for improvement work. This will take place from Tuesday 19 January until early February between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.
