Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 18 to Sunday 24 April 2016
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 15 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 18 to Friday 22 April there will be a carriageway closure north and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56. On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April there will be a carriageway closure southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51, and northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From Monday 18 to Friday 22 April there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 70, taking place between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.
A1 Highfield Roundabout to Scottish Border, Northumberland
There will be a lane closure north and southbound for inspection work. This will take place Wednesday 20 April between 9am and 3.30pm.
A1 Beal, Northumberland
There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place Wednesday 20 to Saturday 23 April between 7pm and 6am. There will also be a 24 hour 40mph speed restriction in place.
A66 South Thorpe to Hutton Magna, County Durham
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until mid May.
A66M Stapleton, North Yorkshire
There will be a lane closure southbound for investigation work. This will take place until Tuesday 19 April between 9am and 4pm.
A696 Kenton Bar to Newcastle Airport, Newcastle Upon Tyne
There will be a lane closure north and southbound for electrical work. This will take place Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 April between 9am and 4pm.
A696 Black Callerton, Newcastle Upon Tyne
There will be a lane closure on the southbound entry and exit slip road for electrical work. This will take place from Wednesday 20 April until the beginning of May, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
A19 Wallsend to Tyne Tunnel, North Tyneside
There will be a carriageway closure in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. On Monday 18 April the southbound carriageway will be closed, and from Tuesday 19 to Wednesday 27 April the northbound carriageway will be closed. All closures will take place between 9pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
